Tom Hartley’s four wickets for Lancashire Lightning saw Notts Outlaws fall short of chasing down 209 at Emirates Old Trafford.

Notts made 169-9 from their 20 overs, with opener George Munsey and Dillon Pennington hitting joint top-scores of 37 before Hartley finished with figures of 4/20.

Strong partnerships throughout Lancashire’s batting saw Keaton Jennings, Matty Hurst and Ben McDermott all pass 50 despite Mohammad Ali taking two wickets.

Having lost the toss and been asked to field first, the Outlaws got off to a strong start as Ali removed Michael Jones, who was caught behind by Tom Moores for just one.

However, Keaton Jennings and Matty Hurst fought back with a fifty partnership that saw Lancashire 55/1 at the end of the powerplay, before the former went to fifty from 28 balls.

Debutant George Linde, though, provided the moment that the visitors were looking for as he saw Jennings held by Ali at long-off to give him a first scalp in Outlaws green.

In a very similar fashion, Hurst then went for 57 after he found Joe Pocklington at mid-on from a Benny Howell delivery.

Ali then claimed his second of the afternoon, removing Joe Moores - nephew of Outlaws head coach Peter - for 13, though Ben McDermott hit strongly to take him to a 22-ball fifty.

Facing down the sizeable total, Munsey hit his first boundary with an unorthodox reverse sweep before Joe Clarke found the boundary four times in an over from spinner Chris Green.

The re-introduction of Hartley - enforced after Jack Blatherwick had pulled up after bowling his first ball - proved a turning point as Joe Clarke was bowled for 21.

Notts ended the powerplay 67-1, but a further two quick wickets, one of which was Munsey for 37, stunted the visitors’ efforts as they reached 83-3 at halfway.

Jack Haynes and Freddie McCann then went soon after, before quick-fire wickets saw Linde, Pocklington and Howell all fall inside ten balls, the latter two to Hartley.

Pennington did ensure the hosts weren’t to have it all their own way by creaming 37 not out from 18 balls late on, but it was not enough for the Outlaws.
